Masoud Pezeshkian said today in the parliament that the priority for some is the hijab.
‘Guidance Patrol’ is a two-word term that has been trending in social media today, and the discussion and critique of this issue is not only heated online but is also widely talked about in every gathering and place.
Regarding this issue, Masoud Pezeshkian, the current representative of Tabriz and a member-elect of the next parliament, said that using force and the current approach will have the opposite effect. The principle that hijab should be observed is one thing, but how to convey this message is another. These women were under the system’s control: state TV, clergy, schools, teachers, and radio were all under the system’s authority, and we failed to properly educate them. Now we want to correct it with force, which I believe is not possible. Some women have no issue with religion and faith; they simply want to live this way. However, these actions lead them to develop issues with religion and faith and confront it with hostility.
In response to the perception that people believe the parliament’s top priority today is the issue of hijab and chastity, Pezeshkian said that for some, this is indeed the priority and focus in parliament today. But we should ask these individuals: you were responsible for educating these people, why did you act in a way that led to this situation? Wasn’t education our responsibility? How did the people become like this with the education they received? Instead of criticizing and evaluating ourselves to see where the issue lies, we are facing individuals who are products of our schools and state TV.
