Pezeshkian and Guterres meet in New York, Iranian President signs UN guestbook
Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, met and talked with António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, on Friday on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Before the talks began, Pezeshkian wrote and signed a message in the UN guestbook, following the UN tradition, and then the two shook hands in front of the flags of Iran and the United Nations. This meeting was part of the Iranian President’s diplomatic agenda in New York. In recent days, Pezeshkian has met with a number of world leaders and international officials. During some of these meetings, he has also presented foreign officials with a book titled ‘In the Name of Help,’ which provides Iran’s official account of the attacks by the US and Israel, detailing the damages to infrastructure and war victims through images and documents. Guterres is in the final months of his second term as Secretary-General, which ends on December 31, 2026, and the next UN Secretary-General will assume the role at the beginning of 2027.
