Mexico accepted to host Iran’s national team camp for the World Cup
Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, announced that her country has agreed to host Iran’s national football team during the 2026 World Cup in Mexico.
The Iranian Football Federation had previously announced that with FIFA’s approval, the location of the national team’s camp has been moved from Arizona in the USA to the city of Tijuana in Mexico.
Iran had requested for its matches to be moved from the USA to Mexico as well, but FIFA announced that the venues for the games will not change.
Mehdi Taj, the President of the Iranian Football Federation, said that with the camp’s move to Tijuana, there are no visa issues, and the national team can travel to Mexico with Iran Air flights.
He also announced that the flight distance from Tijuana to Los Angeles, where the national team’s first two games will be held, is about 55 minutes, and this city is a more suitable location compared to the previous camp in Arizona.
The national team’s training is set to be held at the Tijuana Club Sports Complex.
After the outbreak of war between the USA and Israel with Iran, the participation of the national team in the World Cup faced challenges, including delays in the issuance of US visas for players and the technical staff.
