Masih Pirafaruk, Kian’s father, has posted pictures of his son’s 11th birthday on his Instagram account, writing, ‘My dear Kian, today is your birthday. Although you are not with us physically, you are always with us. The longing to hug you for a moment will remain in our hearts forever.’
Referring to the coincidence of Kian’s birthday anniversary with the killing of Pouya Mollayi Rad, he wrote, ‘Today is not just for you. Our dear Pouya’s flight day is also here. Pouya’s memorial bracelet is still on our wrist, and we will always keep it like a treasure.’
Pouya Mollayi Rad was killed on June 11, 2023, while returning from the ceremony of Kian Pirafaruk’s 10th birthday held at his gravesite, by the gunfire of security forces.
Kian Pirafaruk, a 9-year-old boy from Izeh, was shot and killed on the night of November 16 while returning home with his mother, father, and younger brother in their car. His killing sparked widespread reactions inside and outside Iran.
Kian Pirafaruk’s handmade boat and colorful kite have become symbols of protesters after the autumn of 2022.
