The Minister of Economy and Finance stated that the point-to-point inflation at the end of February was 36 percent.
Ehsan Khandozi, the Minister of Economy and Finance and the economic spokesperson for the Iranian government, stated that the point-to-point inflation at the end of February was nearly 36 percent.
Mr. Khandozi said that the point-to-point inflation in April was 55 percent, and we witnessed a 19.7 percent decrease by February this year, although this significant reduction is still not satisfactory for the government.
Point-to-point inflation indicates the rate of increase in the average price of consumer goods and services compared to the same month of the previous year.
The point-to-point inflation rate dropped from over 55 percent in April this year to less than 40 percent in July, but since then, it has remained stable between 39 and 40 percent.
The main factor for the decline in this index in the first few months of this year goes back to the inflationary surge in June 2022, when the preferential currency for imports was removed, causing the prices of some food items to multiply overnight.
More than a year after that decision, its effect on point-to-point inflation has gradually been eliminated.
The recent decrease in point-to-point inflation has been a natural occurrence and is not significantly related to the current policies of the Iranian government.
