The Minister of Economy and Finance stated that the point-to-point inflation rate at the end of Esfand was 36%.
Ehsan Khandouzi, the Minister of Economy and Finance and the government’s economic spokesperson in Iran, has said that the point-to-point inflation rate at the end of Esfand was close to 36%.
Mr. Khandouzi stated that the point-to-point inflation rate was 55% in Farvardin and we faced a 197% decrease in Bahman this year, which, of course, is not desirable for the government.
Point-to-point inflation indicates the average increase in the prices of goods and consumer services compared to the same month of the previous year.
The point-to-point inflation rate decreased from over 55% in Farvardin this year to less than 40% in Tir, but it remained constant between 39 to 40% thereafter.
The main factor behind the decline in this index in the first few months of this year dates back to the inflationary spike in Khordad 1401, when the removal of preferential currency and the subsequent import of many items caused the prices of some food items to multiply overnight.
With over a year passing since then, the impact of this decision on inflation has gradually diminished.
The recent decrease in point-to-point inflation in recent months has been a natural occurrence and is not significantly related to the current policies of the Iranian government.
