Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, stated that the parliament will provide practical responses to legitimate protests that are not disruptive.
In his speech before the Wednesday session, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf did not mention the over two months of nationwide protests in Iran. Instead, he said that the demand for the ranking of teachers and educators, attention to the protests of retirees, construction workers, and students preparing for entrance exams are examples of addressing protests.
These remarks are being made while in recent days, nurses have resumed their protests, teachers are being arrested, and workers’ strikes have expanded.
Previously, a large group of Iranian parliament members had labeled the nationwide protests in Iran as riots and, in a letter to the head of the judiciary, demanded heavy sentences for those arrested.
In some cases, the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran had also cut off the voices of protesting representatives.
