Mohammad Javad Zarif denied the accuracy of the message transfer claim that the media have quoted from the New York Times.
Mohammad Javad Zarif, the former Iranian Foreign Minister, has denied the New York Times report that he was the intermediary for message transfer between Tehran and Washington.
Mr. Zarif said in an interview with the Entekhab news site today that neither the New York Times’ claim about him is accurate, nor the message transfer issue that some media have mistakenly quoted from the New York Times.
The New York Times, in a report about the tensions between Iran and the United States following the killing of three American soldiers, wrote that three years after sidelining Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Iranian leadership is once again regularly consulting with him.
The New York Times also claimed, quoting a political analyst, that they contacted Zarif because he can better analyze the situation for them, and in this critical time, they need prominent foreign policy experts.
The Entekhab site also quoted Mr. Zarif as saying that no consultations are being conducted with him internally.
