Molavi Abdolhamid says it is the duty of the government and the judiciary to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death of Nika Shakarami.

Molavi Abdolhamid, the Sunni Friday prayer leader in Zahedan, says it is the duty of the government and the judiciary to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death of Nika Shakarami.

On May 4th, Mr. Abdolhamid, referring to the widespread coverage of the BBC World report on how Ms. Shakarami was killed, stated in the Friday prayers sermon in Zahedan that the officials of the Islamic Republic should be impartial towards the people and their complaints against the officers.

He continued by stating that if an official has committed torture or assault, they must be legally punished, adding that those who enforce justice and law should start with themselves and those close to them.

On April 30th, the BBC World Service reported that it had obtained a highly confidential document from the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, indicating that Nika Shakarami was sexually assaulted and killed after being detained by security forces.
