Nahid Kiani's Rise to the Olympic Final

Nahid Kiani’s advancement to the Olympic final

Nahid Kiani from Iran reached the final of the women’s 57kg taekwondo at the 2024 Olympics by winning two consecutive rounds against Leticia Aoun from Lebanon.

In the first match, Kiani, after 3 rounds, managed to surpass Kimia Alizadeh, an Iranian taekwondo athlete from Bulgaria, in the final seconds.

Nahid also won the second match, which lasted 3 rounds, against Chaïma Toumi from Tunisia.

Leticia Aoun also lost to Kiani in the semi-finals, making the Iranian athlete the first Iranian woman to win Olympic gold or silver.

Lebanon last won an Olympic medal in Moscow 1980, and Ms. Aoun was stopped from winning a medal by her Iranian rivals.

Tonight, Thursday, August 9th, Kiani will face Kim Yu-jin from South Korea to win the gold medal.

Kimia Alizadeh also has a chance to win the bronze medal by becoming a finalist alongside Kiani.
