Names of Protest Victims on Aghdashloo’s Dress at the Oscars

Shohreh Aghdashloo, an Iranian actress residing in the United States, appeared at the Oscars ceremony currently taking place in Los Angeles wearing a dress with the names Mahsa Amini, Hajar Abbasi, and Nika Shakarami written on one side of the skirt, and the slogan ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ on the other side. The death of Mahsa Amini in custody due to hijab issues sparked the recent protests in Iran. Hajar Abbasi was an elderly woman who was among the first casualties of the Mahabad protests, and Nika Shakarami was a 16-year-old protester whose body was handed over to her family by authorities after being missing for 11 days. At this year’s ceremony, actress and political activist Nazanin Boniadi told Bahman Kalbasi that she attended the event to be the voice of the protests in Iran.
