Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, says removing Press TV from Eutelsat is contrary to freedom of expression.
Following Eutelsat’s decision to remove Press TV, a television network affiliated with the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, described the action as contrary to freedom of expression and condemned it.
According to Eutelsat, Press TV was removed in compliance with the European Union’s sanctions regulations. The European Union considers the broadcast of forced confessions to be a promotion of violence and a violation of human rights.
The obtaining and broadcasting of forced confessions from political activists in the Islamic Republic of Iran has a long history, and in numerous cases, judicial courts have relied on these confessions to convict political defendants.
The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the new action against Press TV further reveals the true face of the false claimants of freedom of expression and the free flow of information.
He stated that while Europe hosts numerous networks promoting violence and terrorism against Iran, the Eutelsat satellite removed Press TV from its list due to the European Union’s sanctions.
