New Revelation by Hemmati: What’s Happening in the South Pars Gas Field
In a new revelation, Abdolnaser Hemmati, the former governor of the Central Bank, disclosed on his Twitter account a reduction in gas extraction from the South Pars gas field. Hemmati, who has been an outspoken critic of President Raisi’s economic policies in recent months, now reports a disaster in the energy sector.
In this tweet, the former Central Bank governor revealed a daily reduction of 100 million cubic meters of gas extraction by Iran in the South Pars gas field. This is despite plans to increase daily capacity from 700 million cubic meters to 750 million cubic meters. According to Hemmati, the thirteenth government is more than 150 million cubic meters per day behind schedule due to a lack of investment in this sector.
It seems that the thirteenth government not only lacks the ability to increase extraction capacity from the shared South Pars field with Qatar, but also cannot prevent a reduction in extraction for Ebrahim Raisi’s cabinet.
Hemmati wrote on Twitter: The gas extraction from South Pars, which should have reached 750 million cubic meters per day from 700, has dropped to about 650. Preventing a decline in production requires advanced technology and an investment of 25 to 30 billion dollars. Qatar has made extensive preparations to produce 12 billion cubic meters. Let’s not miss the opportunities.
