A Palestinian photographer won the award for the best photo of the year from the Foundation for Press Photos.

Mohammed Salem, a photographer for Reuters, took this photo on October 17, 2023, at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. It won the World Press Photo 2024 award.

The photo was taken while Palestinian families in the hospital were searching for their injured relatives who were wounded or killed in Israeli bombardments.

The photo shows Inas Abu Maamar, 36 years old, holding the lifeless body of her 5-year-old brother, Sali, wrapped in a shroud in her arms.
