Parliament members demanded answers from Raisi’s government regarding the sharp increase in currency and coin prices.
Several members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, strongly criticizing the currency policies of Ebrahim Raisi’s government and the recent new records in foreign currency prices, called for accountability from the thirteenth government on this matter.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, also emphasized the need to address the issue of rising exchange rates and called for a joint session between the parliament and the government on this topic.
Iran, especially in recent years, has faced a significant capital flight. Government institutions have not released last year’s statistics, but the Central Bank’s data shows that Iran experienced about 93 billion dollars in capital flight in the year 1401 (2022-2023).
The worsening of the country’s foreign trade balance has accelerated the decline in the value of the rial over the past few months.
Meanwhile, each US dollar, which had set a record of 65,500 tomans on Saturday, was traded at 64,450 tomans in the free market in Iran on Sunday, April 9th.
