Police spokesperson: 35 people have died in the past 2 years due to the wrongful practice of shooting.

Brigadier General Saeed Montazer al-Mahdi, Deputy of Cultural and Social Affairs and spokesperson for the police, emphasized that citizens and respected tribes should refrain from shooting at various ceremonies. In a note, he wrote, ‘I want to talk to you about the practice of shooting at various ceremonies such as weddings and funerals. This unconventional custom is essentially a kind of innovation that sometimes results in the death of the bride, groom, or a child, or leads to brain death and severe and irreparable injuries.’

Montazer al-Mahdi continued in his note, stating that undoubtedly one of the most significant visual manifestations of insecurity in a society is the scene of shooting among a crowd. He noted that this is a public issue worldwide and has even led to bitter tragedies in some countries. For example, in the United States, such criminal behavior is referred to as mass shooting.

It is more regrettable to announce that since 2022, we have lost 35 of our dear citizens due to these unconventional and terrifying shootings, and dozens have been left with disabilities, which is very heartbreaking.

In our country’s laws, possessing and using firearms is prohibited and considered a crime. Even owners of permitted hunting weapons should consider themselves responsible for this dangerous tool.

The police’s strategies and policies in dealing with this obvious crime are uncompromising, and legal action will certainly and definitely be taken against those possessing illegal weapons. If individuals voluntarily hand over their illegal weapons and ammunition, they will be granted legal leniency.
