Pope Francis: I have no intention to retire

Pope Francis, the leader of the world’s Catholics, stated regarding his presence in the Vatican that he has no desire to retire and that the papal position should ideally be maintained until death. In my opinion, the papal position is for a lifetime, and I see no reason for it to be otherwise.

It is true that two months after being elected as the leader of the world’s Catholics, I wrote my resignation letter and gave it to Cardinal Bertone.

I don’t know where this letter is now. I wrote this letter in case a health issue prevents me from performing papal duties, if I am not fully conscious, or if I am unable to resign.

However, what I did does not mean that the resignation of a pope should become a trend or a common occurrence.
