Possibility of South Korea Sending Weapons to Ukraine
The President of South Korea announced the possibility of changing the country’s stance on not providing weapons to countries involved in war regarding the Ukraine war, and considered the direct shipment of weapons to Ukraine likely.
Yoon Suk-yeol, on Thursday, November 17, in a press conference in Seoul, also revealed that in a phone call with Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, he discussed North Korea and laid the groundwork for a meeting in the near future.
South Korea is one of the major exporters of arms, but the country has traditionally followed a policy of not providing weapons to countries engaged in war.
North Korea, however, has become one of the vocal supporters of Russia during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The deployment of North Korean forces to Russia to assist in the Ukraine war and the recent statements by the President of South Korea indicate the possibility of a policy change in Seoul on this matter.
