Possibility of Ending the 8-Year War in Yemen
A Saudi-Omani delegation is set to travel to Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, next week to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement with the Houthi officials and end the eight-year war in the country, according to two individuals involved in the negotiations.
These sources say that if an agreement is reached, the warring factions in Yemen could announce this agreement before Eid al-Fitr, which begins on April 20.
According to the sources, discussions revolve around the complete reopening of Yemen’s ports and airports, payment for public services, the reconstruction process, and policy changes.
The internationally recognized government stated that as another sign of progress, the Arab coalition lifted the eight-year import restrictions on Yemen’s southern ports.
This follows the easing of restrictions in February for commercial goods imported into the western port of Hodeidah, Yemen’s main port under Houthi control.
