Possible Ukrainian Retreat from the City of Bakhmut

After months of bloody fighting over the city of Bakhmut in Donetsk province and intensifying attacks by Russia and its allies, the likelihood of Ukrainian forces retreating from this city has increased.

Oleksandr Rodnyansky, the economic advisor to the Ukrainian president, told CNN on Wednesday, March 1st, that the country’s military is considering all options regarding the city of Bakhmut.

He emphasized that Ukrainian forces have fought with all their might to hold Bakhmut, but if necessary, they will make a strategic retreat.

Volodymyr Zelensky’s advisor added that Kyiv does not intend to sacrifice all its forces for a battle that yields no gain.

Russia is also using mercenaries from the Wagner paramilitary group to encircle and capture Bakhmut. This group claimed about two weeks ago to have captured an area near Bakhmut.
