Possible initiation of the snapback mechanism process from Thursday by the European Troika
Four Western diplomats have told Reuters that Britain, France, and Germany, known as the European Troika, are likely to initiate the process of activating the snapback mechanism starting Thursday, August 27.
These sources said that the three European countries still hope that Tehran will offer commitments regarding its nuclear program in the next 30 days to halt the practical implementation of this decision.
Representatives of the European countries that are part of the JCPOA met with officials of the Islamic Republic on Tuesday, August 25, to try to persuade the Islamic government to return to the negotiating table before the end of October, when they lose the authority to reinstate sanctions.
However, three European diplomats and one Western diplomat have told Reuters that these talks did not lead to any tangible agreement or commitment from Iran, although the possibility of continuing negotiations still exists.
According to these sources, the process of reinstating sanctions will begin on Thursday and will include financial, banking, energy, and military sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
