Prisoners of the secret cells in Urmia prison have lost hope, please help us.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network has published a letter from the prisoners of Urmia Central Prison warning about the consequences of the harsh conditions of the secret cells in this prison.
In their letter addressed to the head of Iran’s prison organization and international human rights institutions, these prisoners state that they have been unlawfully transferred to special and secure cells, each measuring 30 square meters, which are so crowded that the inmates are unable to lie down to sleep.
The Human Rights Network says that 20 prisoners are in secure cells and 19 in special cells who wrote this letter.
These prisoners mention that they are deprived of the right to visitation and only have limited contact with their families in the secure cells.
According to these prisoners, some of them have been confined in these crowded 30-square-meter cells for 6 months, and their families have no information about their situation, with no officials visiting these cells.
The letter states that prisoners who protest the conditions of the cells are subjected to torture, and medical treatment is not provided when needed.
These prisoners say that we have become hopeless in life and even consider our comfort in death.
39 prisoners who wrote this letter have asked the officials of the Iranian Prison Organization to send an inspector to observe the situation of these two wards. They have also asked the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights to convey their protest to the people and human rights organizations.
