Quick Removal of New U.S. Bunker-Buster Bomb Image
The Associated Press reported that images of the new U.S. bunker-buster bomb were removed from the Facebook page of a U.S. Air Force base, suggesting that these images likely revealed sensitive details about the bomb.
Images of the U.S. 12-ton bunker-buster bomb, known as the GBU-57 or Massive Ordnance Penetrator, were posted on the Facebook page of Whiteman Air Force Base on May 2nd but were removed in less than a day.
According to the Associated Press report on Monday, May 22nd, the release of these images coincided with escalating maritime tensions between Iran and the U.S. and amid Tehran’s advancements in building nuclear facilities.
Whiteman Air Force Base, located in the state of Missouri, is the site from which the U.S. B-2 stealth bombers take off.
The base referred to these bombs as weapons with a high capability to penetrate deep into the ground but did not provide details on how and where the bombs would be tested.
