The rate of driving fines has increased between three to five times

The rates of traffic fines have increased between three to five times.

The new rates of traffic fines, the enforcement of which had been significantly postponed until after the presidential elections, will be implemented nationwide from Saturday, July 13th.

Mohammad Baqer Salimi, the deputy of traffic operations at the traffic police, announced this news and claimed that the new table of traffic fines has been set up to promote traffic discipline, prevent dangerous behaviors, and enhance driving safety.

Traffic police authorities justify the several-fold increase in traffic fines without mentioning any government budget deficits, citing deterrence of crimes.

However, experts emphasize that merely increasing traffic fines several times does not create deterrence in conditions where streets and roads are not up to standard and vehicles lack proper quality. Additionally, according to economic activists, the new rates have been set not with the aim of reducing driving risks but to financially assist the government.

In the new table, the rates of traffic fines have increased between three to five times.
