Renting Iranian Bank Cards to Afghan Migrants for Buying Bread

With the implementation of the bread supply plan, which requires bread purchases to be made only with bank cards, some Afghan migrants who are illegally in Iran or have faced banking service disruptions during this time are having trouble buying bread and are forced to borrow a bank card from a friend, employer, or even their landlord to purchase bread.

Currently, between 1.6 million to 1.7 million Afghans are legally residing in Iran. 2 to 2.5 million only have census papers, and about 300,000 to 500,000 have no documentation in Iran.

Therefore, around three million Afghans receive no services in Iran.

Amidst this situation, reports indicate that the condition of Afghans in Iran has led to a boom in the rental of bank cards, with some Iranians who have multiple bank cards renting them out monthly.
