Reports: The 60-day memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US awaits Trump’s approval
American media have reported that Iran and the US have reached a preliminary agreement on extending the ceasefire and starting nuclear negotiations, but this plan still requires final approval from Donald Trump.
The Axios website was the first to publish this news citing American officials, and then Reuters and AFP also confirmed it.
According to these reports, the proposed memorandum includes a 60-day extension of the ceasefire and the start of negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
An American official told Axios that Trump has informed the mediators that he needs a few days to think about this agreement.
The release of these reports occurred hours after Iran’s missile attack on a US base in Kuwait, which was intercepted by Kuwaiti and American defense systems.
Simultaneously, reports about the possibility of an agreement led to a decrease in oil prices in global markets.
On Wednesday, Trump said he is still not satisfied with the negotiation process and that the US is not negotiating the lifting of sanctions or the release of Iran’s assets.
