Reuters News Agency: The U.S., in collaboration with Venezuela’s interim president, arrested a close ally of Maduro.

U.S. officials announced that in a joint operation with Venezuelan authorities, Alex Saab, a close ally of former president Nicolás Maduro, has been arrested.

According to a U.S. official, the cooperation of Delcy Rodríguez, the interim president of Venezuela, played a significant role in this operation. He also confirmed that Paul Guarín, the head of Venezuela’s Globovisión TV network, was arrested during the same operation.

Alex Saab, a fifty-four-year-old Colombian-Venezuelan businessman, had previously been arrested in Cape Verde in 2020 and spent over three years in U.S. prisons on bribery charges. According to U.S. officials, he is expected to be transferred to the United States in the coming days.

These developments occurred following the U.S. forces’ attacks on Venezuelan soil early Saturday, January 2nd. After these attacks, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the transfer of Nicolás Maduro and his wife to the United States.

Following these events, the Constitutional Supreme Court of Venezuela issued a ruling appointing Delcy Rodríguez as the interim president of the country.
