Rosatom announced plans for the construction of new nuclear power plants in Iran
Alexey Likhachev, CEO of the Russian state corporation Rosatom, announced that Moscow intends to expand its cooperation with Tehran in the construction of large power generation units and small nuclear power plants.
Russia has previously completed the first unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant with a capacity of about one thousand megawatts. The second and third units of this power plant, with a total capacity of over two thousand megawatts, are also under construction with Rosatom’s participation.
Iran and Russia also signed a memorandum of understanding in 2025 to explore the construction of small nuclear power plants and a $25 billion contract to build four new units in the Hormozgan province.
