Rubio: Iran’s refusal to negotiate on missiles is a major obstacle to reaching an agreement

On Wednesday, February 24th, Marco Rubio announced to reporters that Iran’s refusal to enter into negotiations regarding its missile program is considered a significant barrier to reaching an agreement.

He emphasized that Thursday’s talks will primarily focus on Iran’s nuclear program, describing Tehran’s ballistic missiles as a serious threat to the United States and warning that Iran is on a path to develop missiles that could eventually reach American soil.

According to Rubio, Iran currently possesses thousands of short-range missiles capable of targeting U.S. bases in the region, as well as countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates. He considered this capability an actual threat to U.S. interests.

Despite these positions, Rubio stated that the U.S. President is still seeking a diplomatic solution and hopes the upcoming negotiations will be fruitful. However, he clarified that if no progress is made on the nuclear issue, reaching an agreement on the missile program will be more challenging.
