Rubio says discussions with Iran continue

Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, announced that discussions with Iran are still ongoing, but there is no guarantee that these negotiations will lead to the end of the war.

Rubio, speaking at a session of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said that Iran has agreed to negotiate over certain aspects of its nuclear program, a matter that, according to him, Tehran was previously unwilling to accept.

He also once again called for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, stating that this is Washington’s primary demand, but emphasized that simply opening the strait will not mean the lifting of sanctions, as the removal of sanctions also depends on other conditions being met.

The statements of the U.S. Secretary of State come as Fars News Agency reported a few hours ago, quoting an informed source, that the exchange of messages between Tehran and Washington has been halted for at least a few days.

Rubio, who is also simultaneously Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor, will appear in several congressional committees in the coming days to review the government’s proposed budget. The Trump administration has called for a roughly 30% reduction in the foreign affairs budget and a 50% increase in the U.S. military budget.
