Russia has begun assessing readiness to conduct nuclear tests

Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, stated that the recent directive from Vladimir Putin, the country’s president, regarding the assessment of the possibility of resuming nuclear tests is underway

In a meeting of the Russian Security Council held three days ago, Mr. Putin instructed relevant bodies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Defense, to provide suggestions on the possibility of preparing for nuclear tests

Mr. Lavrov said that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working on the directive issued by Mr. Putin and promised that the results of these assessments will be made public

The President of Russia had asked the relevant bodies in the country to examine the possibility of these tests if the United States withdraws from its commitment to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty

This decision by Russia is a reaction to the new policy of the United States and the directive of Donald Trump, the President of the United States

Less than two weeks ago, Mr. Trump ordered the resumption of nuclear weapons tests after a halt of over 30 years
