Russian News Agency RIA Novosti: Moscow Ready for Talks with EU on Gas Supply

1 Min Read

The Russian news agency RIA Novosti said Moscow is ready to hold talks with the European Union regarding gas supply.

RIA Novosti quoted Alexander Novak saying, ‘If the European Union wants, we are ready to talk, but so far we have not seen such willingness.’

According to a five-year contract between Moscow and Kyiv in 2019, Russia exports gas to Europe through Ukraine.

According to this report, this agreement has continued despite the start of the Russian war in Ukraine in February 2022, although the delivery of Russian gas to Europe has significantly decreased since then.

Reuters also reported on this matter, stating that earlier this week the Ukrainian government announced it would not seek to negotiate with Moscow about the possibility of extending the contract for the transit of Russian gas to Europe.

The spokesperson for the Russian Presidential Office, the Kremlin, recently said that Ukraine’s potential refusal to extend the gas transit contract with the Russian Federation will lead to changes in all logistical chains leading to European Union countries.
