Samaneh Yasin’s letter to the head of the judiciary: ‘I am tired of being neglected, please execute me.’
Samaneh Yasin Sidi, a singer and songwriter in Iran who has been imprisoned since last October, has written a letter from Qezel Hesar Prison to the head of the judiciary, expressing his frustration with 18 months of negligence and even preferring to continue being neglected over facing the death penalty.
Mr. Yasin writes in this letter that he is suffering from mental and physical problems, and prison authorities are refraining from sending him to medical centers.
In another part of this letter addressed to Mohseni Ejei, he states: ‘If I am a criminal, imprison me; if I am not, set me free. I request execution from you because I do not have the endurance for imprisonment and negligence for a crime that neither you nor I know.’
Samaneh Yasin, a native of Kermanshah, was arrested on October 2, 2022, during nationwide protests in Tehran.
His case, which had previously been sentenced to death on charges of waging war against society, conspiracy to commit a crime, and acting against national security, has been referred for reconsideration by the Supreme Court due to investigative deficiencies.
