Saudi Arabian media have launched an intense campaign against Netanyahu

Saudi Arabia, following increased disappointment among Gulf states with the Israeli Prime Minister and the Gaza war process, has launched a fierce media campaign against Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Saudi media’s attacks on the Israeli Prime Minister intensified last week when he apparently jokingly suggested creating a Palestinian state on Saudi soil during a television interview.

According to the Financial Times, the harsh and unusual attacks by Saudi state media on the Israeli Prime Minister cannot occur without the support of Saudi officials. Some Israeli analysts say these attacks are more due to Saudi disappointment with Donald Trump’s recent statements, yet they wish to maintain their close relationship with the U.S. President.

The wave of Saudi media attacks on Mr. Netanyahu has intensified at a time when U.S. and Israeli officials have recently spoken about the potential for normalizing Saudi-Israeli relations.

Saudi Arabia had previously emphasized that any normalization of relations with Israel was conditional upon the establishment of a Palestinian state.
