Secretary of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations: The Strait of Hormuz will be closed if war occurs
The Secretary of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations warned that in the event of a war in the region, energy security will be at risk and the Strait of Hormuz will be closed.
Jalal Dehghani Firouzabadi said that in such a scenario, the first country to be harmed would be China, and for this reason, Beijing also values the continuation of negotiations. He also added that it seems Russia is also opposed to the outbreak of war and is trying to prevent it.
He considered last Friday’s negotiations between Tehran and Washington a success for Iran and said that the Americans were willing to negotiate, while emphasizing that the parties have not yet entered into substantive and detailed discussions.
Firouzabadi told ISNA news agency that Iran’s nuclear issue has no military solution, and the U.S. readiness for negotiation shows that Washington has concluded that Iran’s nuclear program has a diplomatic solution.
According to him, in last week’s negotiations, both sides merely stated their views and red lines so that after review in the capitals, it can be determined whether the negotiation process is feasible to continue or not.
