Security Breaches in Iran: Two U.S. Senators Question Facebook

American Senators Mark Warner and Marco Rubio have written a letter to Meta, the company that owns Facebook, pointing to documents indicating that the company is aware of developers in China, Iran, and Russia accessing user data.

The two have noted that these accesses pose a risk of foreign intelligence agencies or espionage breaches, and have expressed deep concern over this.

The documents referenced by Senator Warner and Senator Rubio were revealed during a legal dispute in California in 2018. In their letter, it is noted that one of Meta’s internal documents indicates that around 90,000 developers in China had access to users’ profile information, pictures, and private messages, even though Facebook had no operations in China.
