Sending delegations to prisons to select those who are to be pardoned

The judiciary has announced that, in order to expedite Ayatollah Khamenei’s approval for the release of prisoners, including political prisoners, delegations have been formed to assess the eligibility criteria. Yesterday, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the head of the judiciary, had requested that pre-revolutionary Mojahedin prisoners assist in the process of repentance verification to this institution.

Judicial officials from the provinces are scheduled to begin the process of matching prisoners’ files with the pardon criteria by visiting eight prisons. Some of the criteria for pardon will be decided by the judiciary based on their own standards.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran has agreed to the proposal by the judiciary to pardon and reduce the sentences of tens of thousands of suspects and convicts. This pardon, regarding those arrested during recent protests, is conditional upon factors such as expressing remorse by the prisoners, which has sparked numerous negative reactions.
