Sending SMS Notification of Exhausted Currency Quota for Importers
The Ham-Mihan newspaper has reported, quoting several Iranian traders, that an SMS has been sent with the content of exhausted currency quota for importers of goods into the country.
This newspaper wrote on Sunday, March 10, that some importers who were using non-exchange currency from exporters have received a message from the Central Bank in recent days stating that their request for currency allocation has been rejected due to the exhaustion of the currency quota.
The sending of this SMS comes as some traders have told this newspaper that they did not generally receive quota currency and that their needed currency was supplied from the currency that exporters provided to the Central Bank in the form of remittances.
This report points to the confusion among traders and says that now they are facing difficulties in securing currency for imported goods, and some of them cannot even clear goods that they purchased on credit and brought into customs.
The sharp increase in currency prices last week and the government’s inability to control it by injecting currency into the market have raised speculations about a currency shortage in the country.
