Senior Chinese diplomat announces China’s peace initiative for Ukraine
China has announced its peace initiative to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. Former Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Sunday, February 18th, at the Munich Security Conference that in order to create a safer world, it is necessary to support and adhere to the principles of the United Nations Charter.
According to this senior Chinese diplomat, the turmoil and conflicts that currently disrupt the world are primarily caused by the failure to observe the principles outlined in the UN Charter.
Wang Yi further called for peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue and consultation. According to this Chinese official, problems between countries should not be resolved through unilateral pressure or sanctions, as these actions have adverse consequences and lead to endless problems.
Wang Yi also emphasized that no matter how intense tensions may become, dialogue and negotiation should not be weakened or compromised, and opportunities for peace should be given.
