Sentencing of a Baha’i citizen to 10 years in prison

Mahvash Shahriari Sabat and Fariba Kamalabadi, former members of the leadership of the Iranian Baha’i community known as the ‘Yaran of Iran’, who had each spent 10 years in the prisons of the Islamic Republic, were once again arrested by security forces and on November 21st were sentenced to 10 years in prison for the second time by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court presided over by Judge Iman Afshari.

The global Baha’i community, in a statement, described this sentence as an unbelievable and brutal injustice, adding that the recent sentence was issued following a one-hour trial, most of which was spent with insults and humiliation from the judge towards the defendants.
