Seyyed Hassan Khomeini: The police force must be accountable

Ayatollah Seyyed Hassan Khomeini wrote on his Instagram page hours before the news of Mahsa Amini’s death was published.

On the eve of Arbaeen, the news of Ms. Mahsa Zhina Amini falling into a coma after being in the custody of the police force has deeply hurt our society’s feelings and disturbed the public’s mind.

Undoubtedly, the officials of the police force must transparently and accurately account for what has been done to this 22-year-old girl under the guise of justification and education.

The judiciary, considering its inherent responsibility and the new approach focused on pursuing public rights and responding to public opinion, should take immediate and decisive action against those responsible for this tragic incident.

The failure to act in a timely and legal manner and the failure to stop flawed processes that occasionally lead to incidents increase the fear of such tragedies recurring.

It is also necessary to earnestly pray that Almighty God grants health to this dear sister.
