Pouya Asbaghi was named the best coach of February and March 2024 by the Stars League of Qatar. The 38-year-old Iranian-Swedish coach leads Al-Shamal club in Qatar, where he also coaches Omid Ebrahimi.

He told Aftonbladet about his awareness of the situation in Iran. My parents have a political background. They fled Iran not only because of the war but also due to political persecution. My father is a freedom fighter and opposes the ruling regime in Iran. My wish is to one day travel to Iran without any obstacles.

He has also coached Gothenburg and the Swedish U-21 national team, as well as Barnsley in England. Before moving to Qatar, he assisted the coaching staff of Red Star Belgrade and led the team to victory in the Serbian League and Cup.
