The spokesperson of the judiciary announced that engaging in cryptocurrency activities is prohibited by the government.
Asghar Jahangir, the spokesperson of the judiciary, stated in his press conference today that based on the current definitive policy of the country, domestic cryptocurrency activities are prohibited.
He mentioned that cryptocurrencies have not only involved governments and central banks in Iran but also worldwide, and numerous meetings are being held on this matter within the country as well.
Jahangir added that it appears the central bank has not properly fulfilled its duties in regulating and supervising cryptocurrencies.
He continued by saying that since cryptocurrencies usually do not have a clear backing and central banks do not recognize them as official currency, they are excluded from regulatory processes. Therefore, activities like money laundering and fraud are very common in them and can provide a suitable ground for criminal activities.
The spokesperson of the judiciary stated that the current definitive policy of the country is to prohibit domestic cryptocurrency activities through its resolution, and it has been announced that the risks and hazards of those engaging in these transactions will be their own responsibility.
