The spokesperson of Tehran City Council claims that no trees have been cut down for the construction of the Qeytarieh Mosque.
Alireza Nadali, the spokesperson of Tehran City Islamic Council, stated that no trees have been cut down in the Qeytarieh Garden Mosque project. Local benefactors have been funding the construction of this mosque for a long time.
He added that the location chosen for the mosque is almost unused and without any specific purpose, with a few young trees and about four mature trees. Following the sensitivity and directives of the municipality, no trees were cut down at this location. Instead, the contractor’s plan was adjusted to ensure no trees were cut down.
This Tehran City Council member also mentioned the funding of this mosque’s construction. Some claimed that the Tehran Municipality is the financial supporter of this mosque, but in reality, all construction costs have been covered by the benefactors, with the municipality only providing the land.
He stated that during various urban management periods, 43 mosques have been built in inter-district gardens. He mentioned that mosque construction in gardens complements cultural spaces for citizens. However, some are questioning this cultural project with the help of foreign media.
According to Nadaeli, during yesterday’s visit, accompanied by the official in charge of mosque affairs, it was determined that no trees have been cut down for building a mosque, and we will definitely investigate this matter thoroughly in the Cultural, Social, and Religious Minorities Commission, for which I am responsible.
