Spokesperson of Tehran City Council: Transgender citizens should not be present at Valiasr Square

The spokesperson of Tehran City Council says that transgender citizens should not be present at Valiasr Square intersection.

The spokesperson of Tehran City Council states that transgender citizens should not be present at the busiest intersection in the country, Valiasr Square intersection.

Alireza Nadaali, in a press conference on Tuesday, February 3, mentioned that Tehran City Council does not intend to eliminate the issue, but rather suggests creating a space for the presence of transgender individuals.

Daneshjoo Park and Tehran Theater space, alongside Valiasr Square intersection, are not only considered one of the busiest and important places in the capital of Iran but have also been the site of many protests against the Islamic Republic in past decades.

The spokesperson of Tehran City Council has officially spoken against transgender citizens and members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Iran, citing that under the criminal laws of the Islamic Republic, any same-sex relationship is considered a crime and carries penalties ranging from flogging to execution.

In his previous statements on February 2nd of this year, he described transgender citizens as having special physical and mental conditions and stated that it is unacceptable for the most cultured point of the city to be their gathering place.
