Government protection for Pompeo and Brian Hook due to assassination threats from Iran
According to the Associated Press, the U.S. State Department has placed former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and one of his senior aides under government protection due to concerns about Iranian threats against their lives.
Based on this report, last week the State Department sent a letter to Congress stating that the threats from Iran against the lives of Mike Pompeo and Brian Hook, Donald Trump’s special envoy on Iran, remain serious and credible.
In this letter, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State said that it was concluded that a specific threat against former Secretary of State Michael Pompeo continues. He expressed the same concern for Mr. Hook in a separate letter.
The American publication The Hill, reporting this news, wrote that according to reports last summer, Pompeo and John Bolton, former National Security Advisor, were targeted by an Iranian assassination plot.
