Statement by the graduates of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran: Free Sara Fereshteh Sanei and Hamid Nikkhah

More than 130 graduates of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, have issued a statement protesting the arrest of two artists named Sara Fereshteh Sanei and Hamid Nikkhah, demanding their immediate release and that of other imprisoned artists.

The statement mentions that it is very difficult to obtain information about the condition of these two individuals in prison, and despite several days having passed since their arrest, they have been deprived of the right to have a lawyer.

The statement also condemns the treatment of all citizens who have been unjustly and innocently imprisoned solely for their opinions and beliefs, declaring that we are united and resolute in demanding the unconditional and immediate release of our imprisoned friends and all detained artists.

Sara Fereshteh Sanei is a sculptor and Hamid Nikkhah is a graphic artist, both of whom are currently in prison.

According to estimates by the news agency HRANA, the number of arrests during the nationwide protests has exceeded 18,000 people.
