Switzerland demands Tehran's response regarding the death of its citizen in Iran

Switzerland demands a response from Tehran regarding the death of its citizen in Iran.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry says that on December 10, Iranian authorities informed the Swiss embassy in Tehran that a Swiss citizen had been arrested on charges of espionage in Semnan.

In a statement released on Friday, December 21, the identity of this individual is mentioned as a 64-year-old Swiss citizen who had traveled to Iran as a tourist and had not lived in Switzerland for about 20 years. According to the Swiss Foreign Ministry, this man had been living in South Africa.

The Swiss government states that since being informed of the detention of this Swiss citizen, embassy officials were following his situation and daily requested consular access to him from Iranian authorities. However, they were not granted permission for consular access due to the nature of the espionage charges against him.

On Thursday, December 20, Iranian media reported, citing the Chief Prosecutor of Semnan Province, that a Swiss citizen who had been in Semnan prison on charges of espionage had committed suicide and died.
