The teachers’ statement in protest of the sentence against Mohammad Rasoulof: This medieval sentence must be revoked.
A group of teachers, in a statement protesting the sentence issued for Mohammad Rasoulof, a well-known Iranian filmmaker, called it unjust and medieval and demanded its revocation.
In this statement, signed by nearly 200 teachers, it is mentioned that Mr. Rasoulof is the child of a teacher couple who began their teaching career by teaching reading and writing to prisoners in Shiraz.
A version of this statement has been published in the national teachers’ union channel on Telegram, stating that Mr. Rasoulof has been sentenced for standing on the right side of history, his steadfastness in supporting the people, and his support for the Women, Life, Freedom movement. When we were summoned, arrested, and imprisoned, he could have, like some other filmmakers, chosen silence, remained neutral, and received his benefits from the authorities in the cinema industry.
The protesting teachers stated in this statement that with unjust and invalid sentences, you have hung the chains of your tyranny around the neck of art and have led cinema to the slaughter.
A few days ago, Babak Paknia, the lawyer of filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof, announced that his client has been sentenced to eight years in prison, five years of which are enforceable, flogging, a monetary fine, and confiscation of property.
