I approve the construction of a mosque in Qeytarieh Park by the Tehran Municipality, but no trees will be cut down.

Majid Ghafouri Rozbahani mentioned the construction of a mosque in a part of Qeytarieh Park, stating that Qeytarieh neighborhood is one of the areas facing a religious facility shortage, such as mosques, based on requests received from the religious residents of this neighborhood.

He continued by stating that the highest authority approving mosque constructions in Tehran is the Council for the Regulation of Development and Expansion of Mosques, chaired by the Mayor of Tehran. Recently, a philanthropist from Qeytarieh approached us, requesting land allocation for mosque construction in this neighborhood. This matter was raised in the council, and after expert evaluations, a suitable piece of land in the northeast side of Qeytarieh Park was allocated for mosque construction.

The Tehran Deputy Mayor emphasized that this land is a very suitable location for building a mosque because it is at least one kilometer away from other religious sites and mosques. Both park visitors and neighborhood residents can benefit from its religious and cultural services. Therefore, this mosque will serve not only as a local facility but also as a regional one.

Ghafouri emphasized that no trees have been cut or relocated in Qeytarieh Park so far. He stated that the park covers an area of 122,000 square meters, with about 800 square meters allocated for building a mosque. This means the mosque’s footprint will be less than one percent of the park. Originally, the plan for the mentioned mosque included relocating around 4 trees, but upon Dr. Zakani’s instruction, it was decided to reconsider the plan, and in the new design, no tree will be moved.
